Coastguard’s Cottage is a delightful holiday home by the sea, sleeping six with sea views in the coastal hamlet of Pett Level, East Sussex
The Victorian mid-terrace cottage can be found positioned on top of ‘Toot Rock’, providing far-reaching views of the countryside to the rear and widespread coastal views to the front.
You enter the former coastguard’s cottage straight into the fully equipped galley style kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine, gas hob and oven, large fridge/freezer and tiled underfloor heating. From the kitchen, you enter into the large open plan lounge diner, with clear designated space for lounging in front of the TV and wood burner or dining in front of the french doors leading onto the garden. High ceilings, wooden floors, shuttered windows, artworks on the walls and ample lamps all add up to a cosy, welcoming holiday home by the seaside.
Stairs lead up to the first-floor bedrooms. The rear bedroom has large windows with sea views and can be configured as a double or a twin room and the smaller of the second bedrooms is a double with rolling countryside views. There is a modern wet room to share, with a walk-in shower with a Fired Earth rain head, WC and hand basin. Stairs lead up to the master suite with stunning sea vistas to the front and sweeping rural views to the rear, a king-size bed, bath, WC and hand basin.
The garden is south facing and is set out over two levels, immediately outside the french doors is a seating area with a bench. Then there is a decked area with steps leading down to the lawn and mixed flower beds. At the far end of the garden is a footbridge and pergola which leads to a further area adjoining the Royal Military Canal. We would advise any parents staying not to leave their children unattended in the garden due to the levels and potential water hazard at the end of the garden. The space lends itself beautifully to picnics on the lawn or cloud-watching on a breezy day.
To the front of the cottage, almost opposite is a driveway with parking for several cars. Coastguard’s Cottage is a five-minute walk to the pebbly beach, perfect for families or leisurely dog walks, as the cottage will allow one well behaved dog for an additional fee.
If you are looking forward to relaxing beach days, long walks, morning runs along the promenade, exploring coastal towns or a cosy evening in front of the wood burner, then Coastguard’s Cottage offers you all of that and more.
- One well behaved dog allowed for an additional fee of £25
- The cottage is set over three levels so guests must be able to walk upstairs
- There is a stream at the end of the garden, so please do not leave children unattended in the garden
- The garden is on two levels and the steps down to the lower level are steep, so care required
- The cottage is located on a private road about a 5-minute walk from the beach

A beautiful place to stay, stylish decor and all mod cons :) we had such a lovely stay and the sea views from the top bedroom are amazing. Perfect for a family with young children, and lovely log fires every evening.

Wonderful weekend at Jacqui’s place. Extremely well located between beach and countryside, close to nice traditional towns . And we loved the house itself beautifully decorated with nice details everywhere and very well equipped . We found our host very responsive and welcoming. Highly recommended place !

This house is beautiful, the location is wonderful and the sea views are glorious. It is also very well equipped. The beds are very comfortable as are all the sofas and furnishings. There is a very good telescope for star gazing on the top floor and lovely touches like good quality soap and scented candles dotted around the house. There is a pathway just outside the back door which links all the houses on the coastguard row which got quite busy in good weather with people popping into each other’s gardens and houses. We loved this and very much enjoyed meeting the permanent residents of the Toot Rock community. Swimming off the shingle beach just below the house is excellent at high tide. Highly recommended for people who want a quiet get away in a friendly community.

Great holiday home, in a fantastic location, with wonderful sea and country views. Peaceful and comfortable, what more could you ask for!

This is a beautifully decorated property with everything you need for a week away. You are a 5 minute walk to the beach and you can see the sea whilst sat in the garden and we really enjoyed waking up to a sea view each morning. The property is located between Rye and Hastings and both are places worth visiting. The communication prior to checking in was very good from our host and we would highly recommend staying here.

Coastguards Cottage is a glorious venue, beautifully appointed and was equipped really well for the cooks amongst us. (In fact I think it is the only holiday house I have stayed in which boasts fish knives!). You are our “ go to” company to stay with - so helpful, accessible and communicative and we look forward to booking with you again soon,

We had such a lovely time in this cottage. Fantastic location and it's a beautiful and thoughtfully equipt house with everything you could want for a trip to the sea side. One of the nicest places we've stayed in.

Extra touches of Cava, Christmas Tree and cake were very much appreciated. Nice towels were provided. Kitchen was well equipped. Wood burner worked well when we had wood! Negative: Having checked whether logs would be provided, there were none. There were no bin bags for the linen or for general rubbish which in COVID times you specifically requested a change in procedure which wasn’t possible. The Handcream and Soap in the bathrooms was a nice touch but 1cm of soap for 4 people using the bathroom would have been better not to have any. The ensuite upstairs was interesting! Anticipation of an American fridge was disappointing when it was a standard fridge, however, we managed! More accurate / detailed parking instructions needed to be given out before we arrived and were confusing due to the changes being made to the buildings across the road. Friendly neighbours helped. **Response: We are sorry some items were missing on arrival and we wish we had known so we could have remedied at the time. The lack of logs and bin bags were an oversight with housekeeping. **

Great quiet location. Amazing views from en-suite bedroom upstairs together with very comfy beds throughout ( appreciated the linen bed linen ). Lots of welcome goodies together with a sack of logs for wood burner. All in all a perfect little cottage close to the beach, Rye and Hastings country park. Great dog walks from the cottage too.

Nice quirky little row of coast guard cottages with adjoining gardens set back a short stroll from the beach. Pleasantly furnished and well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The terraced houses are close together and form a nice community where everyone seems very friendly. We had a nice stay and particularly liked the fresh welcome pack of bread, milk, butter and snacks.

We had a great time as a family and celebrated Christmas and my birthday in great style. The Beef from Pett made for a great Wellington and we made good use of the beaches and had a great visit to Rye. There were all of the necessary cooking utensils, plates etc (we could have catered for 25 people!) The only negatives were: That the garden was not enclosed, so we had to take the dogs out on leads at all times The back French doors wouldn’t lock (presumably slightly warped in the winter weather) Nowhere to store boots outside front door (fortunately it didn’t rain) We look forward to another visit **Response** Thank you for your review, we are glad you had a good time. We clearly state on the website that the garden is unfenced.

We had a truly wonderful holiday. The house was stunning, the location was peaceful and the views were beautiful! It felt like a real home from home! Pett Level beach was quiet and we were lucky enough to spot seals!

We had a lovely stay at Coastguards Cottage, the biscuits on arrival were very much appreciated. The house is in a fantastic location next to the beach but with a lovely secluded garden. Waking up to the stunning views out to sea was a treat and the beds were all very comfy. The local area is peaceful and we enjoyed some lovely walks over towards Winchelsea along the canal path with an amazing variety of birdlife (including nesting herons). And we loved the tasty burgers at Half Man Half Burger in Hastings and the pizza at Tillingham. All in all a lovely week with even some sun to enjoy in the garden on the last couple of days!
